9th NASS: NYCN urges APC to allocate key positions to southeast zone

National Youth Council of Nigeria ( NYCN) has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cede key positions in the 9th National Assembly to the southeast zone.

The council gave the advice through its Orlu zonal chairman, John Nwaulu, who spoke to newsmen in Owerri on Tuesday, April 16. Nwaulu, who was a former youth president of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), Ohaji/Egbema chapter, stressed that the leadership of the 9th National Assembly, should not be hijacked.

He said that key positions in the National Assembly should be shared according to federal character principle, adding that it would promote national cohesion. Nwaulu said that the position of deputy Senate president or speaker, House of Representatives, should be ceded to the zone to avoid any agitation.

Lovameet previously reported that the Adamawa chapter of the APC had thrown its weight behind the candidatures of Senator Ahmed Lawal and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for the leadership of the 9th National Assembly Alhaji Ahmed Lawal.

The state organising secretary of the party, made the declaration in an interview on Saturday, April 13, in Yola. Meanwhile, some senators-elect of the APC backing Senator Ali Ndume for the position of Senate president have insisted on open secret ballot for the election of presiding officers of the 9th National Assembly. Ndume representing Borno south senatorial district is one of two APC senators insisting on contesting for Senate presidency despite the party’s endorsement of Senator Ahmad Lawan. The other senator contesting is Danjuma Goje, a former governor of Gombe state and senator representing Gombe central senatorial district.
